2 Day Single-Agency Strategic

Strategic (Gold) Commanders play a vital role in leading their organisation’s response to a major incident.
Within a single-agency context, Gold Commanders must set the strategic direction, provide assurance to stakeholders, and maintain confidence both internally and externally, while ensuring alignment with wider multi-agency partners.

What is included

This two-day course is designed for senior leaders who hold strategic command responsibilities within their organisation.

Delegates will build confidence and expertise in:

• Understanding the role and responsibilities of the Strategic (Gold) Commander
• Applying the JESIP principles
• Setting clear strategy and priorities for their organisation during a crisis
• Leading an internal Strategic Coordination Group (SCG) and ensuring effective governance
• Balancing risks, resources, and competing priorities at a strategic level
• Managing communications with staff, stakeholders, media, and the public
• Providing visible leadership and assurance in the most challenging circumstances
• Refresh skills in maintaining strategic decision logs, strategic leadership accountability and preparing for an inquiry.

A legal professional specialising in emergency response supports strategic course delivery, offering insight into the legislative framework, including the Civil Contingencies Act, providing best practice in maintaining strategic decision logs and preparing for an inquiry.

This training will include a number of small exercises and a realistic, locally based major incident exercise of your choice, linked to your risk register, developed in consultation with your organisation to ensure we test your plans, maximise learning and deliver the outcomes you require.
